Well in typical boat fashion we woke up this morning to water filling
the bilge! The float switch failed and the pump never came on. So the
first few hours was Sam and I pumping out the bilge by hand with our massive
hand Manual bilge pump! What a way to start the Holidays!
Yesterday we spent the evening with Handy Andy and his family for
dinner and drinks. Andy owns the moorning ball we are on and is kind of a
go to guy for everything Luperon. If you need something, water, fuel,
fruit, a ride, whatever he can arrange it for you. He is quite an amazing
fellow. He's ex military, blackbelt, boxer, and body builder. He was a
helicopter pilot and has a son that's about to get a pro baseball contract
but they live in a modest little home out of town about 30 minutes. We met
his wife and kids and brother and sister in law and had the most amazing
meal! It was nice to see a real Dominican Christmas outside of the tourist
traps with real wonderful folks.
Today we spent the day with So Much More playing cards eating snaking
and eating more. We had Quiche, home made Caramels and shortbread that Hannah made,
donuts, meatballs in sweeet and sour sauce. We had coffee and rum and
eggnog. It was wonderful! one of the best things about boating is the
friends you meet along the way. I don't know if it is just sharing boating
or the fact that we're all expats alone in a foreign country or if the
people boating are just friendlier and more social that your typical
neighborhood. But it's one of the things we love.
So folks tonight hug your family, tell someone you love them and try to
make the world just a little bit better!

LAZY!
General News from Luperon
I especially have been very lazy!!! as it comes to regular blogging.
This doesn't need explaining and an apology won't work if I don't start
blogging regularly again. So... we will see if I'm sorry or not. ha ha.
What has happened the last few months? Oh my what hasn't happened?!
Every morning we wake up to wonder what the world will bring from elections
to the threat of world war to ships burning in the harbor and massive drug
busts. I'm not even sure where to begin but it has kept us on our toes.
Grace, thank heavens, has not needed a lot of work but we have rebuilt
a black water pump, replaced the heat exchanger, caulked some of the deck,
chased leaks, repaired anti siphon devices, fixed cushions and more. So
this is the minimum maint on a boat I've seen in a while!
Wanda, has been doing well and has been sewing. Sam has been faithful
on the youtube channel and Hannah has been volunteering at the dog shelter
and making friends in the Harbor.
Para:It's finally started cooling down since November. Temp at night is in
the mid 70's and it has been raining more. So we have collected a lot of
rain water for drinking and washing. It makes it much more pleasant during
the day and of course sitting in the cockpit in the cool evenings is always
wonderful.
